First Snake
Well, it had to happen sooner or later. We knew that moving to a tropical country we would inevitably encounter,….snakes. Thank you God that our first snake was already dead! The neighborhood we live in, (muubaan) has an overabundance of cats. Ema has named three of the most frequent visitors, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, signifiying the times when they are most likely to appear. (no, we do not eat cats here! ….. I think. haha)
I was out trying to water the lawn one morning, since it is now 5 months and counting since we have had any rain, and the ‘grass’ in our yard is struggling. I noticed a particularly green patch in the lawn. Really green. Upon cautious inspection I saw it was a snake and quickly moved back. Thankfully it was already dead, probably courtsey of Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner due to the gash in its side. I had never seen a snake like this before so I looked it up on Google. It is a green vine snake, or oriental whip snake, which ever you would like to call it. The site says it is only moderately venomous, which is good, so it would only make you “mostly dead” hahaha.
The palm tree in the front yard regularly drop fronds, but before they do, they begin to turn brown. We usually leave them until they fall on their own, but one day a neighbor informed me that it is “may suay” not pretty, so now we try to get them down. This morning Greg was pulling off dying fronds and they often have a thin string hanging down from them that looks suspicously similar to the snake! Yikes! We now look carefully!

Of course, if you are mostly dead, there is always hope for a miracle, but if you are entirely dead, we’ll just have to go through your pockets for loose change. (Paraphrase from The Princess Bride.)
Looks like you need “His and Hers Machetes” to handle those palm fronds … ugh, it sends chills down my spine just thinking about walking under them and discovering one of the “fronds” was a snake!
We continue to pray for you, particularly that God will give you special ability to learn the language quickly. We love you and miss you!
